1. Caring - What I have found in many cases is the negative party wants to feel heard, be validated, and made part of the overall plan/conversation. Take a deep breath, smile, and ask why they have this opinion and what their opinion is to make the situation better. By doing this, you and anyone within earshot will know if they have a valid point or are playing devil's advocate. This also shows communicative maturity on your part.

2. Charisma - Humor and wit, parts of a charismatic attitude, can eradicate negativity if used properly. Adults bully in some of the same ways children do and you don't want to be a bully after revenge. If you find yourself in a negative cycle with an individual, attempt to 'kill them with kindness' and a bit of humor to lighten the mood for everyone around you.
3. Class - Don't allow another's negativity to become your own. Remain dignified and classy - show caring without an ounce of bitterness, be humorous and charismatic without becoming crass. Let your optimism bubble forth and you will float to the top!
