A good friend gave me some sound advice. She said, "Imagine your energy as a flashlight. When you shine it out on your audience, you're thinking about the value your story is offering to them. When you shine it on yourself, you'll be overwhelmed with all your insecurities. You get to choose where to focus that energy."
This made me think about how I share my points, stories, passions. I used to cower away a bit, as if my passions where not as important as another's. I now realize I must authentically 'preach' my passion; why it is important to me, the life lessons which brought me to this line of thinking, why I believe others will benefit from what I have to say. In sharing, I am working to create a following of, dare I say, 'believers.'
I am building relationships and creating trust in my words and abilities with others. And, as a speaker, when you speak from the heart the flow takes over and your passion radiates toward your audience. It becomes less of a flashlight and more like a Broadway spotlight, helping them to see how your words can help them.
Be the light! Help others find their path.
